Types of Drill
- Concrete drill bit
This type of drill bit is used for drilling in concrete and various kinds of rocks. It features a specialized tip made of carbide or another durable material to withstand the hardness and abrasiveness of concrete. Concrete drill bits are commonly used in construction, renovation, and DIY projects for tasks such as installing anchors, fasteners, or electrical conduits into concrete surfaces.
- Standard metal drill bit
Such drill is used for drilling various types of metal such as iron plat, aluminium, brass, plastic, acrylic, and others. Metal drill bits are differentiated based on the type of material they are designed for. The most commonly available ones in the market are HSS (High Speed Steel) or HSS-Co (Cobalt). However, there are also other types of drill bits available for specific materials.
- Counter clockwise (left hand) drill bit
Similar to a standard metal drill bit, but with a counterclockwise rotation. Counter-clockwise drill bits are sometimes used in special applications where the material being drilled requires a reverse rotation. Counter-clockwise drill bits are sometimes used in special applications where the material being drilled requires a reverse rotation.
- Subland drill bit
A multi-step drill bit with two sizes of diametre and is is a specialized type of drill bit that features multiple cutting edges or steps of different diameters.
- Center drill bit
A specialized type of drill bit with an angled slope, used for centering, commonly used in lathe machines.
- Countersink drill bit
A type of drill bit used to remove sharpness or to smooth the drilled hole.
- Deburring tool
A deburring tool is a handheld tool used to remove burrs, which are small and unwanted metal, plastic, or wood particles that form on the edges or surfaces of workpieces after a machining or cutting process.
- Glass drill bit
This type of drill bit is specifically designed for drilling holes in glass, ceramic, porcelain, or other similar materials. Glass drill bits have a carbide or diamond-coated tip, which is harder than glass and can effectively cut through the material without causing excessive stress or fractures.
- Core drill bit
Core drill bit is specifically used to drill concrete, walls, marble, granite, or other types of rocks, and is typically large-diametre holes drilling.
- Hole saw metal
This tool is used to drill metal with a certain diametre size including a large-diametre drilling. The types of hole saws are differentiated based on the materials they are made of, such as HSS (high-speed steel) or tungsten tip. The type of Bi-metal hole saw is commonly used on thin plates and soft iron.
The residue (wise) from the drilling process using this tool remains as solid material left inside the hole saw.
- Forstner drill bit
Forstner bit or hinge borring bit is used for a large diametre drilling on wood, plastic, acrylic, or other soft materials. It can be used to create concave holes and pierced holes.
The residue from forstner or hingge borring bit drilling is in the form of dust. This tool is usually used in a high to very high RPM.
- Standard wood drill bit
This type of drill bit is used for a large diametre drilling on wood, plastic, acrylic, or other soft materials. The common characteristics of this drill bit can be seen on its pointed tip in the middle, two flutes, and wider flutes compared to metal drill bits.
Standard model with HSS material is the common type in market, typically used for handheld drills, while for other types used on woodworking machines. Although there are also types with tungsten tips.
- Auger drill bit
Auger drill bit is used for drilling on wood and other soft materials. It has wider diametre size compared to standard wood drill bit with the shape of single flute. It is usually used in a low RPM.
- Chisel drill bit
Chisel bit is designed for drilling square-shaped holes in wood, used in a hollow chisel mortiser machine.
- Router drill bit
This type of bit functions to create various profile shapes on wood or other soft materials. It is used in a router or trimmer machine.
